On Saturday 16th November 2024, Hellenic Seaplanes acheived a milestone in Greek aviation by successfully conducting its inaugual test flight to Ermioni in Argolida.  This event marks a significant leap in diversifying transportation options in Greece.  The HS seaplane's journey took it across the breathtaking Greek Riviera, flying over iconic coastal sites such as Porto Heli, Kilada, Spetses, Hydra and Poros.  The lucky test passengers on board were treated to awe-inspiring views of the coastal landscapes that characterise the Ermionida region.  The flight culminated in a smooth landing at the port of Ermioni, a first-ever water landing for this historic town.  This test flight is a crucial step in Hellenic Seaplane's grand vision of establishing a comprehensive seaplane network across the whole of Greece.

The initiative promises to connect some of the country's most scenic and remote areas, enhancing accessibility for tourists and residents alike, eager to explore Greece's famed natural beauty.  The strategic goal behind the flight is part of a broader effort by Hellenic Seaplanes to revive and expand seaplane operations nationwide. 

The successful test flight was carried out on a cloudy and windy day in Ermionida, but not as bad as the first heavy snowfall in the mountainous parts of Macedonia, or the rainstorm 'Alexandros' that hit central and eastern Greece, flooding areas around Athens.  We now have to wait and see how long it will be for Hellenic Seaplanes to offer a full operational service to Ermioni and Porto Heli. 

On Friday 20th December 2024, Hellenic Seaplanes announced a joint partnership with Norwegian electric hydroplane developer Elfly Group, in purchasing ten of Elfly's 9-seat 'Noemi' electric hydroplanes.  Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028, marking a significant step towards reducing regional emissions.  In the interim, Hellenic Seaplanes will continue to operate its existing fleet of 12-seat 'Cessna Grand Caravans' and 19-seat 'Twin Otter' hydroplanes, maintaining their current service on its domestic routes.

Hellenic Seaways confirmed on Christmas Eve that the Southern Athens suburb of Alimos will soon be linked by air with the islands of the Cyclades, Dodecanese, Sporades, Northern Aegean, as well as the Ionian Sea and coastal destinations of the Peloponnese like Ermioni and Porto Heli.  Alimos is evolving into a hydroplane hub, as Athens is about to receive seaplanes for the first time after half a century.  As yet, Hellenic Seaplanes have not supplied a starting date for their flights out of Alimos.
