ELPIDA 'Journey of Hope'
Ermioni was the start of the 'Journey of Hope' on Friday 7th February 2025, an awareness initiative at informing and supporting children battling cancer. Ermioni was honoured with the starting point, being the birth-place of the late Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, founder of ELPIDA, the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer. Cyclist Sotiris Barbarossos will ride 1,200 kilometres, starting on 7th February, passing through 20 municipalities in Greece, forming the golden ribbon, the global symbol of the fight against Childhood and Adolescent Cancer. The national 'Journey of Hope' will end on Friday 14th February, Valentine's Day. The bicycle ride is a message that no one is alone, proof that when we stand alongside those who are being treated for cancer, we can make the world a little brighter for them.
As part of the welcoming events for cyclist Sotiris Barbarossos in Ermioni, an open-invitation bike ride was held the day before in collaboration with 'Vision of Hope', with an awareness, information and sampling booth for new volunteer bone-marrow doners.

Welcoming Sotiris Barbarossos to Ermioni, the Regional Mayor of Ermionida, Yiannis Georgopoulos, stated that "As a Municipal Authority, we support every child who fights their battle. We support every great volunteer action. Their stregth, their courage, their thirst for life inspire us. And today, we send them the strongest message: We are here with you so that hope will never be lost".
