Rainstorm 'Adel' originally crashed into western and north-western Greece on Wednesday 26th November 2025, with Civil Protection declaring a nationwide 'red alert'.  Rainstorm 'Adel' intensified during the evening bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, hail and gale-force winds to large parts of Greece, causing flooding, landslides and travel problems.  'Adel' spread to Attica and central Peloponnese on Thursday, bringing rain to Ermionida in the morning and hitting full force later that evening and throughout the early hours of Friday morning, with heavy showers throughout the day.  The thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail and extremely strong winds caused power cuts and flooding of many roads, streets and homes in parts of Ermionida, particulary Ermioni, Kranidi, Kilada, Fourni, Loukaiti and Porto Heli.

During 7 hours of Rainstorm 'Adel', 110 tons of water per hectare fell on Ermionida, that is approximately one-third of the water that falls throughout the whole year.  This has resulted in flooding of houses, streets and roads, the collapse of old buildings, falling of trees, the washing away of vehicles, with extensive damage to crops, particularly in the Ermioni plain and the Kranidi-Kilada plain.

Friday became a clearing-up day, with the Ermionida Municipality personel and volunteers, in collaboration with the Police and Fire Department, who started early in clearing water, fallen trees and debris from roads and dealing with the flooded streets and homes.

While Rainstorm 'Adel' battered the islands and coastal areas of Greece on Thursday, Athens celebrated the lighting ceremony of their 19m Christmas fir-tree in Syntagma Square, attended by hundreds of people with umbrellas that braved the stormy weather.
