On Tuesday 2nd July 2024, Greek Water Airports (GWA) announced the signing of an agreement for the creation of two waterdrones, in Alexandroupoli and on the island of Samothrace.  The GWA company had already provided the licensing of the first waterdrome in Kassandra, on the Halkidiki peninsula, and has already completed the approval of waterdromes in Ermioni and Porto Heli in Ermionida, Kea and Mathraki, with Spetses still awaiting approval.  The GWA company specialises in studying, constructing, licensing and operating waterdrones and has assumed the construction of 37 waterdrones around Greece and her islands since the relevant law was passed.  This is positive news for Ermionida, as travel times will be greatly reduced for passengers travelling to/from Athens and Piraeus. 

Greece has more than 6,000 islands, a landscape ideal to explore by seaplane or helicopter.  Helicopters already provide quick island-hopping opportunities on popular Greek islands like Mykonos, Santorini, Patmos, Paros and Zakynthos.  The new air networks in future will allow passengers to quickly access destinations only previously served by ferry services or road networks.

Greece's first and only helicopter airline, launched in late June 2024 by Hoper, offers customers the opportunity to hop between 11 island destinations around the country.  Hoper has begun to offer convenient daily flights to remote destinations on the Aegean islands.  Operating fixed routes and scheduled departure times, Hoper helicopters can reach each island in less than 45 minutes, significantly reducing travel times and travel costs for customers.  The company's five Robinson R44 and R66 helicopters will be in operation in Greece all year round. They will take off from Hoper's base in Koropi, Athens, a 15-minute drive from the city's airport.
